Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate wears her 300-year history with dignity.
Nestled in the magnificent Franschhoek Valley in South Africa’s Western Cape – her lush vines spread across 47 acres, with gentle vistas over the valley floor, with the rugged beauty of the mountains beyond.
This is truly heartland South African wine country.
Founded by French Huguenots in 1694, the Estate brilliantly combines historically significant heritage buildings with contemporary chic and in the four short years since its total refurbishment, has gathered an impressive list of local and international awards. These have largely been in recognition of outstanding hospitality, service, and for the superb cuisine of Executive Chef Jacques de Jager and his team at The Restaurant. This cuisine has been complemented by award-winning Grande Provence wines created by the Estate’s legendary winemaker Jaco Marais. Wine tastings and winery tours are available.
The Owner’s Cottage welcomes guests to unsurpassed boutique accommodation comprising five beautifully appointed bedrooms including a deluxe suite, a spacious lounge, designer kitchen and a conservatory for dining. This is further enhanced by a manicured garden with a loggia, swimming pool and an elevated spa pool overlooking the Estate’s vineyards towards the magnificent mountains beyond.
Recently, The Owner’s Cottage was chosen by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report Special Edition (USA) as the single recipient of their Grand Award, for South Africa. Harper’s Bazaar magazine has also chosen The Owner’s Cottage at Grande Provence as ‘One of the 10 Most Fabulous Villas in the World’. 2009 has certainly started strongly and with much reason for celebration and congratulation for Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate and its team. Wine tastings and winery tours are available.
The Estate is also proud to offer guests, The Jonkershuis – an exquisite private venue designed especially for functions, boutique conferences and small weddings. The Gallery & Sculpture Garden both showcase emerging and established South African artists and offer a chance to view and purchase their work over a series of regular exhibitions. The latest addition to the Estate, The Shop at Grande Provence, offers selected items of small furniture and décor, health and well being products and artworks.
Grande Provence Estate is a sister property of Huka Lodge, New Zealand and Dolphin Island, Fiji. All three properties comprise The Huka Retreats.
